The Vitamin That Will Protect You from Wounds: Vitamin K

It's happened to you before - you bump into something and get a bruise where you hit yourself, right? Of course, it happens to everyone, especially in the morning, when you're still sleepy and feeling your way to the bathroom. And that's nothing to worry about. The bruise heals quickly and soon enough you forget about it. But what happens when bruises stick around for weeks? Is that normal?

Actually, the way your body recovers from these little incidents depends on a vitamin that may not be as familiar to you, but is just as important for the body as vitamin C, D, or E:

MEET VITAMIN K

Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin found in our bodies. It helps blood clot, regulates calcium levels in the blood, and improves the strength of our bones. It's often overlooked, but is actually very important for our health. Vitamin K is found in leafy green vegetables. Our bodies also have bacteria that produce it. But these bacteria can be destroyed by antibiotics, so avoid taking them whenever possible.

DO YOU HAVE ENOUGH VITAMIN K IN YOUR BODY?

Here are the symptoms that will show you have a vitamin K deficiency:

  • Bruising and bleeding easily;
  • Problems with blood clotting;
  • Bone fractures;
  • Impaired function of blood vessels;
  • Wounds that won't heal;
  • Hematuria;
  • Risk of fractures;

The balance of this vitamin is extremely important, and a lasting deficiency can be dangerous for your health. The easiest and surest way to get vitamin K is through the food you eat.

FOODS RICH IN VITAMIN K:

 Fresh and dried herbs

All of them, without exception, contain extremely large amounts of vitamin K – basil, sage, and thyme contain more than 1700 micrograms per 100-gram serving. Oregano and coriander also contain large amounts of this vitamin. So instead of salt, add more herbs and spices to your dishes.

Fresh onion

It also contains a fairly large amount of this vitamin. 100 grams contain 207 micrograms of vitamin K.

Leafy green vegetables

These also contain a lot of vitamin K, but the highest content is found in kale. A 100-gram serving contains 882 micrograms of vitamin K.

Brussels sprouts

A 100-gram serving contains 194 micrograms. This vegetable is most beneficial when steamed with a little fat.

Curry, paprika, chili powder

Besides being high in vitamin E and C, these foods also contain vitamin K. One tablespoon provides 5-7% of the required daily intake.

Broccoli

A 100-gram serving contains 220 micrograms of vitamin K.

Asparagus

A 100-gram serving contains 80 micrograms of vitamin K. It's best steamed.

Other foods that contain vitamin K include cabbage, cucumbers, dried prunes, beans, and others.  The optimal daily intake of vitamin K is: for children – 30 micrograms, for women – 90 micrograms, for men – 120 micrograms.

THE BENEFITS OF VITAMIN K

As you've now understood, this vitamin is very important for your body to function properly. Here are its specific benefits:

Protection against hemorrhaging – because of vitamin K's role in clotting the blood, it protects us from heavy bleeding and internal and external hemorrhages.

Protects the brain – vitamin K has a powerful antioxidant effect that protects the brain from free radicals. In addition, many studies show that the vitamin has a direct, supportive effect on brain function.

Eases menstrual pain – the vitamin also affects the secretion of certain hormones, which is very important for women, since it eases pain during menstruation.

Supports the heart – it helps prevent calcification of the vessel walls, protects against inflammation of the endothelium, and reduces the risk of blood clots forming.

EMU OIL, THE RICHEST SOURCE OF VITAMIN K

If you want to quickly and easily supply your body with the necessary dose of vitamin K, then emu oil is the solution for you. Extracted from the fatty tissue of the Australian emu bird, this entirely natural product will give your body everything it needs to be healthy and strong.
