Fish Oil Isn't Just for Children

Did you know that fish oil isn't just needed by children and teenagers? You too can be healthier and stronger during the cold months, if you take the valuable vitamin D and Omega-3 fatty acids. Fish oil is suitable for every age and generously offers benefits to both adults and children.

Omega-3 fatty acids strengthen the adult immune system

The high concentration of DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) in fish oil favorably affects B-cells – lymphocytes with a key role in the humoral immune response. These cells are of key importance for the adaptive immune response, as they stimulate the release of antibodies that attack a specific bacterium or virus. EPA and DHA are not synthesized by the body, but are found in valuable fish oil.

A medical study from 2018 among adults with weight issues – 36 overweight women and men – shows that Omega-3 fatty acids directly influence the physical and functional properties of the cell membrane. This also relates to the body's response to inflammatory processes and to the production of molecules for better immune function. Therefore, although there are not yet enough studies on the effect of Omega-3 acids in this direction, this finding is considered an important indication of the benefits of fish oil for adults.

Balance between Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids for better health

The ratio between Omega-3 and Omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids in the body affects its response to inflammation. As you know, fish oil is a concentrated source of valuable Omega-3 acids – EPA and DHA – which we obtain through a balanced diet and dietary supplements. Omega-6 fatty acids (PUFAs) – linoleic and gamma-linolenic – are important for hair growth, skin condition, and bone maintenance, and regulate metabolism. The balance between Omega-3 acids and Omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids systematically stimulates the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. These are a group of proteins released by cells as signaling molecules for intercellular communication. They regulate the immune and inflammatory response. That is why the balance between Omega-3 and Omega-6 polyunsaturated acids is important for a better and more successful bodily response to inflammation and stress.

Daily vitamin D fights acute respiratory infections

Regular vitamin D intake reduces the risk of acute respiratory infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract. The American publication Verywellhealth cites a meta-analysis of 25 studies examining the effect of the „sunshine vitamin“. The data show that people who took vitamin D daily were at lower risk of contracting these infections, typical of the cold months, than those who took it only occasionally.
That is why, with the emergence of Covid-19, studies began on the relationship between vitamin D intake and protection from the virus. However, despite the proven benefits against acute respiratory infections, according to the Harvard Institute of Public Health, there is not enough data on a direct link between coronavirus prevention and vitamin D intake.

Choose quality fish oil for everyone

Fish oil is a dietary supplement that can be taken year-round. But to be confident that it "works" for your health, choose fish oil extracted from wild fish, under sustainable fishing conditions, free from pollutants and radiation. Find out whether the production processes exclude heat, mechanical pressure, solvents, or chemicals. Read carefully: in genuine fish oil, the DHA/EPA ratio should be approximately 1.4 to 1. And most importantly: if you have any doubts about the dosage you should take, consult a doctor.
