Feel Fresher This Spring with Fish Oil

Spring is arriving, but besides more sunshine and greenery around us, it also brings the marks of the difficult transition from the cold, dark winter to the warmer season. Our immune system is worn out, old injuries flare up, we become more absent-minded and get tired easily, and stomach upsets appear due to the change in diet. Yet spring is meant to be something we enjoy, isn't it?

Taking fish oil as a whole family, especially children, adults, and people with chronic conditions, saves a lot of money and nerves in dealing with viruses, persistent fatigue, and stomach problems.

For healthier bones and joints

How can you stay active if your knee or joints start acting up with the first spring rains or a change in weather? The omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA help reduce inflammation in the joints and limit the production of certain proteins that lead to the development of arthritis. According to a 2016 US study, rheumatoid arthritis patients who took fish oil three times a day significantly reduced their use of painkillers.

Fish oil against asthma and allergies

Allergies and asthma are truly unpleasant in spring, aren't they? Fish oil helps reduce asthma symptoms, especially in young children. It is also recommended for pregnant women, to reduce the risk of allergies developing in their babies. Dr. William Sears, author of the book The Omega-3 Effect, states that eczema and dry-skin symptoms resulting from allergies are relieved by taking more omega-3 acids.

Less fatigue and irritability, better mood in spring

Low levels of omega-3 acids in the body are a major cause of the significant rise in depression, mood swings, and prolonged fatigue in spring. That's why regular consumption of quality, clean seafood and fish oil is considered a means of preventing mental health issues as well as recovering from chronic exhaustion.

Attention!

Fish oil can be taken all year round, but with a few caveats. The supplement is considered safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women, as long as they don't exceed the recommended dose. Similar advice applies to children, with liquid fish oil recommended for those up to 6 years old.

People with heart problems are at risk of a disrupted heart rhythm or arrhythmia. That's why, for them, fish oil should be taken at a dose recommended by a doctor. Most importantly, before starting to take fish oil, you should know whether you are allergic to fish and seafood. There isn't enough data on whether allergy sufferers experience symptoms from taking the supplement, but the recommendation is to avoid it.

Only clean, high-quality fish oil

When choosing a fish oil for your immunity and to fight spring ailments, it's important to check for a high concentration of EPA and DHA. In genuine fish oil, the DHA/EPA ratio should be approximately 1.4 to 1.

Look for fish oil with certifications for purity and sustainability. It's advisable that it comes from wild-caught fish, under sustainable fishing conditions, free of pollutants and radiation. And most importantly: if you have any doubts about what dosage to take, consult a doctor.
