Interview with Rosita Founder Mr. Svenson / PART 3

Question #7: In your opinion, what needs to change in fish oil production?

Mr. Svenson: Companies need to be more transparent and tell consumers the truth about their production methods and the fish species they use. It's not uncommon for cod liver oils to actually come from a completely different fish that isn't cod at all, especially fish sourced from the southern hemisphere, including Peru. The same goes for the production of krill oils (crustacean plankton). Krill oils may in fact contain cheap 18/12 fish oil. (It's called "18/12" because it contains about 18% EPA and 12% DHA. 18/12 fish oils can be used as bulking oils.)

In Norway we have four main cod liver oil factories. They catch their fish using trawling methods for 2-4 months during winter. They can also use farmed fish. They produce around 400 tons a year, and then store the oil in tanks for perhaps more than a year!

By then the oil has already gone rancid and needs pharmaceutical refining. The manufacturers then add synthetic nutrients that were lost during the refining process. They then sell these oils on to the companies that market cod liver oil.

On top of that, most companies get much of their oil from Peru and South America, not even from cod liver at all. This applies to the well-known commercial brands in the US as well, which are currently making enormous profits! There's no law stopping this!

Question #8: What would you like everyone in the world to know about fish oil?

Mr. Svenson: We want everyone to know the truth about all of this. That's how we try to encourage every person to research and discover the truth for themselves. It's so easy to buy into what certain scientists and experts have been paid to say.

We want you to be alert when scientists use words like "believe" or "think," or even when they cite other scientists to build up their claims in the writings for the products they endorse. We've found that such statements are used more and more in fish oil marketing, often without any real scientific evidence at all. Our modern science is built around cause and effect, and there shouldn't be room for any "beliefs" or personal statements whatsoever – only confirmed facts.

When scientists and people with academic degrees vouch for a product, please don't buy it without real-time research and personal involvement. Don't give up on seeking the truth. They may simply need money to get even richer at your expense.

We also want you to know that testing pure natural products requires special protocols and testing methods. They're quite different from the testing protocols and methods used for industrial-grade or other oils. You can't use agricultural protocols and methods to test marine oils. The results won't show the true, reliable properties of the oils. That's one of the reasons we use specialized marine laboratories in a third country for our testing. We want the ACTUAL, reliable results, not results we could pay to get through other laboratories.

When products show higher vitamin and nutrient values than you can find in nature, we should all start questioning those products! A high content of synthetic vitamin isn't what matters. What matters is that they are naturally occurring compounds in them… Some fish oils are marketed with a content that can never be found in living fish. Is it really possible for a natural product to have higher or different values than you could find in an actual living fish in nature?

Question #9: Where can Bulgarian customers buy your products?

Rosita's fish oils can be found through our official representative Real Food BG – www.realfood.bg , as well as in various health food stores, supplement shops and elsewhere.
